Retatrutide at the Dr. Fehmida Arif Clinic, Karachi

Retatrutide explained

The next generation weight loss peptide, acting on three hormone receptors at once. Still in clinical trials, widely talked about, and worth understanding properly before anyone offers it to you.

What do I need to know about retatrutide?

  • It targets three receptors, GLP-1, GIP and glucagon, and produced the largest average weight loss ever recorded in a phase 2 obesity trial, around 24 percent of body weight at 48 weeks.
  • It is investigational. Phase 3 trials are under way and no regulator has approved it yet, so anything sold online as retatrutide today is an unregulated product.
  • Straight answers at consultation: where the science stands, whether waiting makes sense for you, and which approved option can do the job now.
Overview

The most talked-about molecule in metabolic medicine.

Retatrutide is a triple agonist: a single weekly peptide that activates the GLP-1, GIP and glucagon receptors together. GLP-1 quietens appetite, GIP improves fat and insulin handling, and the glucagon action raises energy expenditure, a third mechanism the current medicines do not have.

The phase 2 results made headlines for good reason. Adults on the highest dose lost around 24 percent of their body weight in 48 weeks on average, and the curve had not flattened when the trial ended. Numbers like that put retatrutide ahead of anything currently approved, which is why phase 3 trials are being followed so closely.

Here is the part the internet skips: retatrutide is not an approved medicine anywhere in the world. Until the trials finish and regulators review the full safety data, anything sold as retatrutide is an unregulated research chemical of unknown purity. We publish this page because patients deserve a clear picture, and we would rather you got it from a doctor than from a reseller.

What it treats

What the research shows so far.

Good candidates

  • Patients planning ahead who want to understand the next generation of treatment
  • People weighing whether to start an approved medicine now or wait
  • Anyone being offered retatrutide online who wants a medical opinion first

Not suitable for

  • Anyone considering unregulated retatrutide products: purity, dose and safety are unverified
  • The trial exclusions mirror GLP-1 medicines: medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2 history, pregnancy and breastfeeding, pancreatitis history
  • Higher doses raised heart rate in some phase 2 participants, one reason full phase 3 safety data matters
How it works

Where it stands, and what we offer now.

01

Where the science stands

Phase 3 trials across obesity, diabetes, sleep apnoea and heart disease are in progress. If results hold up, regulatory approval would follow afterwards, with availability in Pakistan some time after first international launches.

What we offer today

Until then, the clinic does not sell unapproved compounds as treatment. What we offer is a consultation that puts retatrutide in context: if you are a candidate for medical weight loss today, tirzepatide and semaglutide are approved, available and highly effective, and switching later remains possible if retatrutide earns its approval.

In trials, side effects were mostly digestive and dose related, similar to the approved GLP-1 medicines, with heart rate increases under observation. The complete safety picture is exactly what phase 3 exists to establish.

Questions patients ask

Retatrutide, answered.

Straight answers from the clinic. If your question is not here, ask on WhatsApp.

An investigational weekly peptide that activates the GLP-1, GIP and glucagon receptors together. It is being developed for obesity and related conditions and is currently in phase 3 clinical trials.

No. It has not been approved by the FDA, DRAP or any other regulator. It is available only inside clinical trials, and products sold online as retatrutide are unregulated.

Around 24 percent of body weight on average at 48 weeks on the highest phase 2 dose, with the trend still downward when the trial ended. Phase 3 will give the definitive numbers.

The phase 2 average exceeded tirzepatide's trial results, but they have not been compared head to head, and approval, safety and availability still separate them. Today, tirzepatide is the strongest option you can actually be prescribed.

Only after phase 3 completes and regulators approve it, first internationally and then locally. Any specific date would be a guess; we track the trials and update patients honestly.

Products exist, but they are unregulated research chemicals with no verified purity or dosing, sold without screening for the conditions that make these drugs dangerous for some people. We advise strongly against it, and we will happily put that advice in context at a consultation.

Digestive side effects similar to GLP-1 medicines, and a dose related rise in heart rate that researchers are watching closely. Unknowns are the point: the full safety profile is what the remaining trials establish.

If weight is affecting your health now, waiting years for a trial drug rarely makes sense. Semaglutide and tirzepatide are approved, effective and available under supervision today, and your plan can evolve as the science does.

This page is educational. Retatrutide is an investigational compound that has not been approved by the FDA, DRAP or any other regulator, and the clinic does not supply unapproved compounds as treatment. Information reflects published trial data at the time of writing and may change as research progresses. Nothing here replaces medical advice; treatment decisions are made only after an in-person consultation.
