Is laser hair removal right for me?

  • For unwanted hair anywhere from the upper lip to the legs, on any skin tone, including tanned or darker skin.
  • Six to eight sessions, four to eight weeks apart; fifteen minutes for a small area, an hour for full legs.
  • Hair grows back finer and sparser after each session; most patients reach long-term reduction by the end of the course.
Overview

The laser built for our skin.

Waxing and razors take time, cause ingrown hairs and darken the skin. Laser hair removal ends the cycle: focused light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair, heats the follicle and disables its ability to regrow. Over a course, hair becomes finer and sparser until most of it stops growing.

The clinic uses the Candela GentleMax Pro, which combines two lasers in one platform: a 755 nm Alexandrite for lighter skin and finer hair, and a 1064 nm long-pulsed Nd:YAG for brown and darker skin. The Nd:YAG wavelength passes safely through the skin’s own melanin, which makes it the right choice for most South Asian skin, and Dr. Fehmida chooses the wavelength for each patient and area. A cold burst from the dynamic cooling device comes before every pulse for comfort.

Face, underarms, arms, legs, bikini and back are all treated. Six to eight sessions, four to eight weeks apart, is the usual course, with an occasional maintenance session afterwards.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people need six to eight sessions, four to eight weeks apart, because laser only affects hairs that are actively growing at the time. The face often needs more sessions than the legs or underarms, and hormonal hair, for example with PCOS, may need occasional top-ups.

Is laser hair removal safe on brown skin?

Yes, with the right laser and settings. The clinic uses the Candela GentleMax Pro, which has two lasers: Alexandrite for lighter skin and Nd:YAG, which passes safely through the melanin in darker skin to reach the hair root. Using the wrong laser on brown skin is what causes burns and dark patches, which is why the device matters as much as the operator.

Laser or electrolysis?

Electrolysis treats one hair at a time with a fine probe, so it suits small areas and very light or grey hairs that laser cannot see. Laser treats thousands of hairs at once and is far quicker for legs, arms, underarms and the bikini line. For most people laser is the practical choice, with electrolysis kept for the few stray hairs left at the end. The clinic offers both, so the two can be combined in one plan. See electrolysis or laser hair removal: which is right for you.

Hair growth with PCOS

Extra facial and body hair is one of the most common signs of PCOS. Laser works well for it, but the hormones behind it keep making new hairs, so results last longer when the PCOS is treated too. Dr. Fehmida will look at both.

Every area, one laser.

Good candidates

  • Anyone tired of waxing, threading or shaving.
  • Darker or tanned skin; the Nd:YAG is designed for it.
  • Ingrown hairs, shaving bumps and darkened underarms or bikini line.
  • Hormonal facial hair, alongside medical management when needed.

Not suitable for

  • Very light, grey or red hair, which lacks the pigment the laser targets.
  • Pregnancy, as a precaution.
  • Active infection, open wounds or recent isotretinoin in the area.
  • Recent waxing or plucking; the follicle must be present, so shave instead before sessions.
How it works

Cool, pulse, disable.

01

The area is prepared

Shaved, cleansed and, for sensitive areas, numbed. Settings are calibrated to your skin tone and hair thickness.

02

Cooling, then the pulse

A burst of cryogen cools the skin, then the laser pulse heats the follicle. It feels like a quick snap.

03

The follicle stops producing hair

Treated hairs shed over one to three weeks. Each session catches follicles in their growth phase, which is why a course is needed.

Laser suits most patients. For fair or grey hair, electrolysis may be the better choice, and the consultation will say so.

Questions patients ask

Laser hair removal, answered.

Straight answers from the clinic. If your question is not here, ask on WhatsApp.

Yes, when the laser matches the skin. The clinic's GentleMax Pro includes a long-pulsed Nd:YAG, the wavelength recommended for darker skin, with cooling before every pulse.

Yes, from very fair to very dark. The Nd:YAG passes through the skin's melanin and targets the hair, so tanned and darker skin can be treated safely.

No. The energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair; the surrounding skin is cooled and untouched. Mild redness for a few hours is normal.

Yes. After a course, most hair stops growing and what returns is fine and sparse. Hormonal areas may need an occasional maintenance session.

About fifteen minutes for the upper lip or underarms, up to an hour for full legs or back.

None. You can return to normal activity immediately; avoid sun and hot showers for a day.

Six to eight sessions, four to eight weeks apart, because the laser only affects hairs in their growth phase.

A quick snap with each pulse, softened by the cooling burst. Sensitive areas can be numbed.

Shave the area within 24 hours, avoid waxing or plucking for four weeks, and avoid sun on the area.

Yes. Back, chest, shoulders and neck are the most requested areas.

It is the best treatment for recurrent ingrown hairs and shaving bumps, since it removes the hair that causes them.

Pricing depends on the area and the package. The clinic shares the exact fee at the consultation. Ask on WhatsApp for current pricing.

Yes, if the skin is not freshly tanned. Avoid sunbathing for two weeks before and after, and use sunscreen on treated areas.

Yes. The upper lip, chin, sides of the face and neck are among the most common areas we treat. Facial hair can be more stubborn, so a few extra sessions are sometimes needed.

It helps, but hormones keep making new hairs, so results are slower and you will likely need maintenance sessions. Dr. Fehmida may suggest checking your hormones and treating the cause alongside the laser.

Almost any area with unwanted dark hair: face, underarms, arms, legs, bikini line, back, chest and stomach. Large areas such as full legs or the back take longer per session but follow the same plan.
